How do I resize an image online for free?+
Open the BoxFree image resizer, drop in a PNG, JPEG or WebP, choose a preset or type exact width and height, then download. It is completely free and runs in your browser, so your image is never uploaded.
How do I remove the background from an image?+
Open the background remover and choose your image; it stays on your device. It samples the background color from the corners, then removes matching pixels connected to the edges. Refine the edges with a brush, then export a transparent PNG or place the subject on a new background.
Are my images uploaded to a server?+
No. BoxFree processes everything locally with the browser Canvas API. Your images never leave your device and there is no cloud storage. Page views are counted with Vercel Web Analytics, which never receives your images.
Which image formats are supported?+
You can import PNG, JPEG and WebP: up to 40 megapixels in the resizer, 18 in the background remover, and files up to 40 MB. Export to WebP, JPEG or lossless PNG; the background remover also exports transparent PNG.
Can I compress an image to a specific file size?+
Yes. For JPEG and WebP you can enable Target file size and enter a maximum number of kilobytes — the resizer searches for the highest quality that fits under your limit, or the closest file it can make. That is ideal for forms, email and upload limits.
How do I make a transparent PNG?+
Use the background remover, keep the background set to Transparent, refine the cutout if needed, then export as PNG. The transparency is preserved for logos, stickers and product photos.
Can I resize images for Instagram, YouTube or app stores?+
